Gig review: All Time Low

Queues outside the Barrowlands from early in the morning, clearly All Time Low are a big deal to someone.

All the way from Baltimore Maryland, All Time Low is a pop-punk band with a huge, slightly obsessive fan base that for some reason mainly consists of teenage girls.  The reason behind this probably being the four male band members - Alex Gaskarth, (lead singer, guitar) Jack Barakat, (lead guitar) Zack Merrick (Bass guitar) and Rian Dawson (Drums) who stopped off in Glasgow on 9th March as part of their 2011 UK tour. The band has been together for 8 years, forming in 2003 during High School. At only 21/22 they have seen much success with three full length albums already out and another on its way this summer.

Appearing on stage to a roaring crowd in the Barrowlands, All Time Low started their gig with newer, upbeat songs to get their audience excited. Their spectators, who didn’t need much incentive to jump about and sing along to songs anyway, were shown just as much enthusiasm from the band as they were providing. The third song All Time Low decided to play was an old song, written when the lead singer was just sixteen. ‘Jasey Rae’ is an old favourite that fans from the beginning as well as brand new ones all discover and love.
One of the highlights from the set list for fans was a new unreleased song that the band played. With their fourth full length album being released in June, the group decided to give their audience a sneak preview and play a song off the album called ‘Time Bomb’. Predicatively their audience went mental and seemed to love every minute of it. Surely a good feeling for the band.

As well as many upbeat, pop-rock songs, All Time Low have a few acoustic numbers that never fail to disappoint. ‘Remembering Sunday, ‘Therapy’ and a cover of Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’ all went down fantastic with great vocals and atmospheric lighting.
The gig was a huge success with fans loving every minute. No matter what song was played the audience knew the words, showing just how dedicated they are. With the band confirmed to play T in the Park they clearly have a lot of love from Scotland.
